Star Fox

Posted by reo3 on March 19, 2009

In this assignment we had to model a spaceship in either Maya or XSI, and put it on a live scene. Thus, I decided to model the spaceship in Star Fox 64 and made it do an emergency landing in the BCIT parking lot.

I had two main issues doing this assignment. The first isssue was to fix the lighting of the live scene because it was very bright and blurry. I was able to fix it by adding the color correction and the sharpen operator on the footage. The second issue I had with the assignment was to match the lighting of the spaceship to the live scene itself. It took me a lot of trial and error to get the lighting as close as I can in Maya and playing around with a few operators in Combusition. In the end, I do think my scene turned out pretty well especially since my live scene was shot on a sunny day.

Environment

Posted by reo3 on March 18, 2009

Here is my Environment Assignment that I had to do for my 3D Animation class. I didn’t realize how dark the video turned out in YouTube since it looked fine on my media player at home. I don’t know if anyone can see it. But if you look closely enough and increase the brightness of your computer screen, you should be able to see bugs flying away from the tree. However, I do have another version of this video posted on my Facebook where the scene is during the day and the bugs can be seen clearly flying away from the tree.

The Hunt for Street Fighter 4

Posted by reo3 on February 25, 2009

sf4_011 When Street Fighter 4 came out on Wednesday, I did not think there was going to be such a high demand for the game. I could have gotten the game on Friday but I wanted to get the collector’s edition  because for 10 dollars more you get an Ryu figurine, a Street Fighter 4 Blu Ray anime movie, and a character move manual. Therefore, the whole weekend I ended up searching for the collector’s eddition around Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Richmond but I was not able to find it. I asked an EB Games emoployee and he told me that the only people who were able to get their hands on the collector’s eddition were the ones who reserved the game ahead of time.  After hearing this, I decided to give up on the collector’s eddition because I wanted to play the game as soon as I can. In addition, all the stores I’ve been to, told me that all the collector’s eddtion were sold out and I might have to wait a month to get one.

Today, I finally got the game at the Best Buy store in Metrotown but it wasn’t the collector’s eddition. I have played the game for 2 hours now and it did not disappoint. I did find the game very difficult even in easy mode probaly because I am very rusty with my special moves and combos. I did practice for a bit in trainning mode with my girlfriend and I took her back to some old school Street Figther ass whooping.

First Term

Posted by reo3 on February 17, 2009

During my first term at the Digital Animation Program, I have learned to use 4 new programs: Maya, Softimage, Combustion, and Flipbook. Maya and Softimage are the 3D programs we use for modeling or animating objects in 3D. From the two 3D programs, I found Maya a lot easier to use because it’s interface was more user friendly than Softimage. Furthermore, I had a lot more practice using Maya because I have 3 classes that uses Maya. As for Softimage, the only class we ever use it for is 3D Animation. However, I do like the new 3D effect feature in Softimage, called ICE.

Combustion is the composition software we will be using to create our final demo reel by the end of the year. The software has a lot of cool features but it is very difficult to use compare to Adobe Premiere or After Effects. Finally, Flipbook is the 2D program we use to capture our 2D animation during the first term. The software was ok but there wasn’t a lot of features built into it. For instance, the software did not even have any feature where you can add sounds to your animation which was pretty disappointing.
